July 4, 2026, marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the founding of the United States of America. The 250th anniversary provides an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the significant contributions Washingtonians have made to local, state, and national history.

During Monday's city council meeting, Mayor Armondo Pavone proclaimed that the City of Renton will engage in commemorative activities during the United States’ Semiquincentennial Year of 2026.  VFW Commander Bernell Zorn accepted the proclamation

Zorn reflected “Our (VFW) members stood, served, and fought to protect the freedoms and rights that we enjoy. I am incredibly proud to stand among them.”
