Recognizing Sikh Heritage Month and Vaisakhi Day in Renton
Published on April 09, 2026
April is Sikh Heritage Month, a time to recognize the rich culture, history, and contributions of the Sikh community.
During Monday's City Council meeting, Mayor Armondo Pavone designated April 2026 as Sikh Heritage Month/Vaisakhi Day. Accepting the proclamation was Rupy Kaur, a member of the Mayor’s Inclusion Task Force.
Kaur shared, “Vaisakhi is a time of renewal and selfless service, and seeing our traditions acknowledged at the city level inspires a great sense of pride and belonging.”
Vaisakhi, also known as Khalsa Day, is one of the most significant celebrations in the Sikh community.
The local Sikh community will gather alongside cities across the Puget Sound on Saturday, April 11 at the Kahlsa Gurmat Center in Federal Way to celebrate Sikh heritage and culture.
As the 17th most diverse city in the nation, Renton takes pride in being a place where all identities, faiths, and cultures are welcomed, valued, and recognized. Over 2,100 residents were born in India, reflecting part of the city’s broader South Asian community, which includes members of the Sikh community.
