Regional Transportation Projects

Renton is at the center of where an extensive regional, multi-modal transportation network converges. Interstate 405 and State Routes 167, 169, 515 and 900 pass through the heart of the City. Within Renton, bus and train services are provided by Sound Transit and King County Metro. City staff coordinates with these agencies to develop transit system improvements which can include service enhancements (new routes or improved service frequency) or capital investments (signal queue jumps and park and ride facilities). Sound Transit is investing in capital projects giving HOVs direct access to, or travel priority at, key locations into and out of downtown Renton.

WSDOT I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening

WSDOT's I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes project includes multimodal transportation and safety improvements to offer more reliable travel choices and keep drivers, transit riders and freight moving.

King County Metro RapidRide I Line

RapidRide I Line will upgrade Route 160 (previously Route 180, combined with former Route 169) connecting the cities of Auburn, Kent, and Renton.

Sound Transit Stride S1 Line

The Stride S1 Line will connect communities along I-405 and SR 518 from Bellevue to Burien. Like all Stride routes, buses on the S1 Line will run every 10 to 15 minutes, 17+ hours per day, seven days a week.

Renton Transit Center

Through Sound Transit, the new Renton Transit Center will feature 8 bus bays, covered waiting areas, and a new four-way signalized intersection to support bus operations. To ensure fast and reliable trips, a bus-only lane will be added to the northbound shoulder of SR 167.
